DESCRIPTION
This 27-foot, full keel, tiller-steered, pocket coastal-cruising sloop was designed in 1965 by reknowned naval architect Carl Alberg for Clinton Pearson and his then-newly-formed Bristol Yacht Company. Offered in three different versions (Cruising, Dinette, Weekender), the 27 was among Bristols first models. As is typical of Carl Albergs seaworthy designs, the Bristol-27 is heavily built. A fairly high ballast to displacement ratio ensures stability and the cutaway forefoot aids in maneuverability. The Bristol-27 was very popular, with over 300 being constructed in one three year period. Production ran from 1965 to 1978 with between 337 and 400 being built.
Marmara II, a Weekender model, has the same hull, rig and sailing capabilities as the Cruising and Dinette models. It differs from the other two models primarily in that the cockpit was lengthened to 8 5 (with a corresponding reduction in cabin length), the cabinhouse top is flat (the Cruising and Dinette models have a doghouse) and the toilet is located in an enclosure between the V-berths rather than in its own compartment. Belowdecks, Weekender amenities include roomy berths for 4 (split between main and forward cabins), marine head, loads of storage space, natural light and 5 10 headroom throughout. Beautiful satin-finish varnished bulkheads and trim throughout add to a feeling of warmth below.
In addition to the above, Marmara II also has a unique custom-built galley (possibly factory-installed) including draining sink, manual freshwater handpump, 2-burner alcohol stove and galley storage lockers. The current owner had a manual bilge pump, stern pulpit and roller furling installed, replaced the outboard engine and all cushion covers and built the cockpit grates mentioned below.
The Bristol-27 originally came with just enough natural teak and mahogany to please those who enjoy spending time caring for their boat, yet not so much that it will take time away from a full sailing season. The solid, owner-built oiled teak cockpit grates are a wonderful addition and blend perfectly with the rest of the woodwork.
Marmara II has given her owner enjoyable decades of service, but due to medical reasons she has been out of the water the last two seasons. We are anxious to find her a new home and new life.

ACCOMODATIONS
Berths are 6 9 in the main cabin and 6 5 in the forward cabin, with 5 10 headroom throughout. The forward cabin has V-berths with blue vinyl cushions and a concealed toilet enclosure underneath. Also in the forward cabin there is an opening, translucent overhead hatch, two fixed ports, 2 electric lights, outboard shelves and access to the rope locker which has a cowled vent overhead. The water tank is under the forward end of the v-berths. Separating the forward cabin from the main cabin is a beautiful mahogany door which matches the bulkhead and trim with which it is surrounded. Additional woodwork in the main cabin includes teak handrails and mahogany trim. In the main cabin to port and starboard are settees with green vinyl cushions and storage below. A shelf outboard on either side runs the length of the cabin and all the way aft are huge open storage lockers both port and starboard. On the centerline aft is the companionway with a removable, 2-step ladder to the cockpit with a large open storage area behind it (under the bridgedeck) where the Porta-Potti is stowed. There are removable carpets covering the entire sole of the boat with access to the bilge below. There are two fixed ports and two electric lights in the main cabin. The sliding companionway hatch has an automatic vent in it.
GALLEY
Although most Weekenders came without a galley, this one appears to have had one factory-installed - athwartships at the forward end of the main cabin over the settees. On the port side there is a modern two-burner Origo 3000 alcohol stove with work surface outboard, mounted teak utensil rack and storage locker below. To starboard there is a stainless steel sink with manual freshwater pump and storage locker underneath.
