Bear with me. This page just called out to be done. Most may not understand why, but there's just something so very special about driving along and imagining the days of glory for the towns, large and small, along Route 66 before the damn interstates came along. It's a feeling I can't describe.

After driving Rt. 66 in Albuquerque a number of times and noticing the large number of old motels, restaurants and other artifacts of the heyday of Route 66 that are defunct and are in danger of being destroyed in the name of progress, it seemed the thing to do was to get some photos before all this nostalgia is gone.

Instead of ranting about the demise of Route 66 and all the Mom and Pop businesses, here's almost 50 photos which give a glimmer of the Mother Road of yesteryear. In a few years, most of these will be gone. One was being removed the day I took the photo and the El Vado is also doomed.

What it must have been like to travel the Mother Road in the early 50s! .......... but it's still pretty cool even today!
