This winter, after a few brews, I decided to spend 3 weeks in Utah/Colorado, around the time of the 33rd Easter Jeep Safari. This experience was, by far, the best wheelin' adventure of my life. The Jeep and I made it through 20 straight days of wheeling with only a disintegrated transmission bracket, 5 universal joints, a crunched fender, a CV joint, pieces of teeth off the rear ring gear (only made noise when I coasted), and a valve stem. The worst that happened to me was a bad sunburn and not being able to spend 40 days wheelin'.
There's way too much here for one page so it's divided up into multiple pages, one for each of the weeks. Click on a title to take you a given week.
As usual, I'm letting others do the work, so the first week is written by Doc. Parts of the second and third weeks are written by John. - Thanks guys!
I hope these articles will give you some idea of the great fun it was to be out there and wheel with a good group of people and some most excellent wheelers.

The first week I met up with Doc and we explored the San Rafael Swell , hundreds of thousands of acres of canyons that is becoming a focal point for Klinton/Gore and the greenies. We wanted to see the sights and take the trails before they closed it up. As it turns out, they were in the process of closing it down while we were there. The wheeling wasn't that tough, but the adventure and the people we met rated this a 10 on the fun-o-meter. |

The second week was spent in Moab for the Safari. I met up, at various times, with

This second week was spent on much more difficult trails and included such highlights as the Spike, Hell's Revenge, Rusty Nail, and the Helldorados. The social events consisted of going out for Utah beer each night and, with the 5 other guys from Omaha, running up a substantial food/bar tab on more than one occasion. You can drink a lot of Utah 3.2 micro-brewed beer when you've been out in the sun all day!

The third week was spent with John, Randy and Doc playing a little more in Moab and then doing 21 Road and several of the killer trails around Montrose . This included the most difficult trail I've ever been on, Die Trying. |
