Buddy Holly and the Norman Petty Studio,
Clovis, NM, April,2005
This was the end of a most excellent 3 week trip to Moab, Utah. To catch up on the details, click here.
This was the studio where Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, the Fireballs and number of other artists recorded in the 1950s. We were able
to get a tour due to a chance of luck. As we drove by, we noticed some folks in the courtyard so I went up to them and asked when
we might get a tour. Dave Bingham, of the Roses, one of the backup groups for Buddy Holly, was the person I talked to and he agreed
to give Jeff and me a tour. It was awesome - we spent about 2-1/2 hours looking at the studio (which hasn't changed much since the
50s) and had a great chat with Dave, his wife and a couple friends. We learned so much - and unfortunately forgot so much. But
at
least we have the photos!
So 8 months later, finally here are the Clovis photos. Since then, I've acquired photos of the Surf ballroom where Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper played their last gig and also the crash site near my hometown in Iowa. There's a lot of different ways to present the photos but since I wanted to annotate some of them, I've created a number of web pages and just dumped the photos in them. This makes for some pretty large pages. Sorry.
